Our approach
Writers on Moonlit keep the copyright in their stories, and we ask them to publish only work they have the right to publish. If you believe something on Moonlit copies your work or otherwise infringes your rights, tell us and we will look into it promptly.
How to report infringement
Email us at [SUPPORT EMAIL], or use Report in the app on the story or chapter. In your report, please include:
- your name and contact details;
- a description of the work you own, and a link to where it appears if you can;
- the link to the story or chapter on Moonlit that you say infringes it, and which parts;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not allowed by you, your agent or the law;
- a statement that the information in your report is accurate, and that you are the owner or are allowed to act for the owner;
- your signature (typing your full name is fine).
Reports that are incomplete may take longer to deal with. Please do not send a report you know is false: that can have legal consequences.
What we do
When we get a complete report we may hide or remove the content while we look into it, hold any related earnings, and tell the writer what was reported and by whom, where the law allows. We may ask you for more information. We tell you the outcome.
Counter-notice
If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, or that you have the right to publish it, send us a counter-notice at [SUPPORT EMAIL] with:
- the content that was removed, and where it appeared;
- why you believe it was removed by mistake or that you have the right to use it;
- your name and contact details, and your signature;
- a statement that you agree to us passing your details to the person who reported it.
We pass the counter-notice on. If the person who reported does not tell us within 14 days that they have started legal action, we may restore the content.
Repeat infringers
Moonlit ends the account of writers who are repeatedly found to have infringed copyright. Each upheld report is also a strike under the Writer Agreement. Earnings from infringing content may be held or withheld.
Other rights
For concerns about privacy, defamation or child safety, see the Community Guidelines and the Child Safety page, or use Report in the app. For child safety concerns, do not wait: report at once.
